Teaching Snapshot
Hi. My name is Alejandro Leon and I am a professional artist and teacher. Below is a snapshot of my experience over the last few years. At Coronado School of the Arts, I taught a class called Intro to Art in Video Games. In this 8 week course, we learned simple programming and how to make art for a game. We used Game Salad which is an educational game making software. Each student created their own Super Mario Bros. type game.
I taught classes out of my studio in Barrio Logan. To the right, High school Students in my non-nude life drawing class doing quick gesture drawings. To the left, students working on perspective and shape design for their story illustration.
Below are samples of student work.
Online Children's Book Art Instructor
I also taught at Storyteller Academy which is an online school for adults who want to make children's books. I created three classes-Drawing 2, Drawing People for Children's Books, and Acrylic Painting. Students can get feedback during my live sessions where we meet once every two weeks to go over homework.
Entertainment Studio Designer
After graduating from art school, I interned at Pixar Animation Studios where I worked on Cars 2. Pixar used one of my illustrations for their Art of Cars 2 book. I spent another 3 years working in the mobile gaming industry before returning to San Diego where I co-founded a company that sold wall decals using art from published children’s book illustrators.
Below is the mobile game that I worked on at Red Robot Labs. It is a dungeons role playing game that uses your own location as part of the game.
Today, I am working on a series of digital and physical paintings about whimsy, forests, and abstraction.
